Journal Entry 3 by Sherlockfan from Upper Hutt, Wellington Province New Zealand on Sunday, March 6, 2005
Arrived this weekend - we did not clear our mailbox on Saturday so collected it Sunday.
DreissM, must really thank you for introducing me to Spencer and Hawk, and the lovely Susan, and the irrepressible Pearl. CHaracters I am really getting to like and want to see more of.
This was a delightful book. Yes, alas, I've already read it. Who needs sleep anyway?
I can see why this writer would become a favourite of yours. Despite the tough guy exterior of the male characters this book deals so well with father/son relationships and is quite a thought provoking story.
One can't help but feel sympathy for Joe and the hapless Gerry. And the likeable Paul who seems to have become a man despite his background and mother.
I just love the pictures conveyed of Spencer's upbringing. All those men; all that testosterone!
All in all a most satisfying book. Thanks for thinking of me.
While I am currently not actively seeking books for purchase until I get through the Christmas stock that is still on hand I will keep one weather eye open for more Robert Parker books.

From goody-bag to Fiction Addiction bookbag. Sounds interesting but I have too many others that I know are definitely my kind of reading. Someone else will love it as it should be loved.
received in the Fiction Addiction Bookbag today.
This is the first Robert B Parker book I have read and I will be looking for more. I loved Pearl, the characters were well developed and the search for the missing mother had enough twists and turns to keep me interested. I stayed up late last night to finish it...I just had to know how the problem with Gerry was solved.
Sorry forgot to journal that I picked this up
