I have read most of Neil Gaiman's books and he is one of my favourite authors. I haven' felt like reading Neverwhere because I have recently watched the TV series on DVD (it was quite good).

My mother-in-law, also a Neil Gaiman fan, has just bought a new lovely hardback copy of Neverwhere, so I have decided to register and release this copy.

This book has a long history already, as you can see from all the price tags on it. At one stage it was taken to T's second hand book shop in Randwick at then sold for $8.80, who knows where it went next. Eventually my mum-in-law bought me this copy in a Salvos store for $1.00.

On the back it says about Neverwhere - "a dark contemporary Alice in Wonderland ..imaginative, well-crafte and highly visual."

When "Neverwhere" appeared out of the blue (well, out of my mailbox, really...but let's not split hairs...), I was delighted, and somewhat surprised. Who was this wonderful person who'd sent me a book I love AND a Red Dwarf postcard?? Thanks so much Tuesday - you've really made my day!!

Journal Entry 4 by rem_IYK-917793 on Wednesday, March 9, 2005
thanks to the lovely TuesdayNext, this darkly comic and thoroughly brilliant book joins my permanent collection!!

i'll write a fuller review of it soon... but first, i'd better get through the small pile of bookrings and library books i've got waiting.

thanks again Tuesday - i'm so grateful!

well, here i am months and months after i'd planned to write more about the sensational "neverwhere", still no nearer to getting it done (sorry about that!) neil gaiman's definitely one of this year's big discoveries for me, so i've just bought myself a copy of "neverwhere", so this one can resume its travels.

thanks so much, tuesdaynext, for allowing this copy of "neverwhere" to lodge with me for a while!! i've read it 3 times since i've had it, even though i never reviewed it - it's become something of a favourite!! i'm thinking that my brother might enjoy it, so when he comes home for christmas, i'll see if he's interested.

i just discovered this great australian online bookshop called less10 (www.less10.com), that doesn't charge postage, so when i ordered "neverwhere", i also bought "american gods" (i recently read it for the first and second times, and "wow" doesn't do it justice!!), and "smoke and mirrors". suffice to say, i've become a big neil gaiman fan :)

Oh dear . . . this did sit on my shelf for a very long time, but I have now finally read it. And I loved it. Gaiman is certainly a master story teller - nothing too fancy or complicated, just good solid story lines, great characters, and lots of fun.

Thanks again cosminx. I'll now be looking for an appropriate home to send it on to.

I finished reading this book on 29/10/2022.

I didn’t realise when I started the book that it was a novelisation of a TV series (which I haven’t seen). I don’t think that matters particularly, but it was the kind of book where it was easy to see it in your mind playing out on the screen. Not my usual style of book, but it was a nice change and I really enjoyed it.
