Arrived yesterday. I've read the Lord of the Rings when I was a child in my fantasy era, and the trilogy had left me with a vague bad feeling about the ideology behind it, and I am very curious to read the original now; epecially all the language stuff Tolkien invented which I wanrt to look at without the distortions of the german translations, such as "Beutlin" for "Baggins". Thanks a lot, appaloosatb, for sending it over!

I have wanted to re-read this for a long time, and finally I have made it. My best friend has invented a story about what Boromir lived until he met the fellows, and before getting to know that story, I just wanted to get the context right.

I must say I like the book in english much better than in german, and I had fun reading it this time. It was all but a task back then when it was just a must-read for a child playing D&D... still I feel uneasy with Tolkiens semito-germano-myth-cum-language-conconctions. And the lack of overall plot control (who the hell can memorize all that threads and names that will never be picked up afterwards?!) is really unnerving.

Thanks again for sending it over, appaloosatb, and sorry for the long delay - there was a relocation and a long journey that kept me from getting to the book. I passed it on to another bookcrosser yesterday.

Received the book from travelling Leukonoe. Because I already know it and even own it (in the original English version) I don't think I will read this copy. I'll see what comes to my mind and hopefully the book's travels will be as long as the hobbit's - or maybe even longer?
