Sending to desertresident as part of a trade - thanks so much !
Received your package today, Faithful-Reader and I am so glad we traded books! Although I haven't read many of Dean Koontz novels, I am sure Sole Survivor will be hard to put down!
Thank you!
Thank you!
About three-quarters of the way through the book, I was almost positive that I had seen a movie with this very same theme because I knew the ending before I read it.
Sole Survivor keeps the reader wanting more and also is a fine example of "the human spirit never dies."
A great read for mystery and thriller fans!

Got it from behind the counter at the laundry, it's going on the tbr pile.
This could have been an amazing 250 page book, but it goes on for 400 pages and I think the extra lenghth hurts the story. It started out absolutely fantastic, and I considered it to be on the same level as Intesity, which I think is Koontz's best book. I hate it when one character in a story has all the answers to the protagonists questions, but for some reason is unable or just "not ready" to give them, and that's what happens here. In the first fifty pages, a character shows up promising an earth-shaking revalation, but the bad guys keep butting in before we can find out what it is. That's ok for a little while, but it goes on for about three hundred pages.
I could still have forgiven the long wait if the revelation was as astounding as promised, but I wasn't impressed. It wasn't particularly original, and so many hints had been dropped throughout the book that it wasn't even a surprise.
Shortly after reading this book, I saw a brief Creative Writing 101 lesson by Kurt Vonnegut in the introduction to Bagombo Snuff Box. In it Vonnegut says to "give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible...That's so they can play along." In Sole Survivor, I didn't feel like I was playing along, I felt like I was just standing by waiting for the big surprise. And waiting...and waiting. And it just never lived up to the potential of its great beginning.

Hunted this book down at the Subway. I don't recall ever reading anything by Dean Koontz. Hope I like it!
My opinion is pretty much the same as Mr. Samsa's review. I wasn't impressed, skimmed a lot and was kinda angry by the time I finished it. It did hold my interest, but really let me down at the end. It won't keep me from trying other books by Koontz though...
