Venus

I went to Chapters yesterday to buy a new book of crossword puzzles. But I made the mistake of walking too close to the remanders' shelf, and two hardcover books leapt off and followed me home. Honest!
I'm a bit ho-hum about this one. It's a sort of 'coming of age' in a SF setting, and I've gone off coming of age stuff. The setting is quite detailed and fascinating tho. Bova can be good with the scientific details, however, one problem I have with Bova is that he often doesn't take into consideration the fact that planets are not always the same distance apart! I mean, when going to Venus it always takes two months (or whatever), and never mentions the fact that Earth and Venus can be on opposite sides of the sun from each other. Same with radio signals back and forth; it's always a twenty minute delay, and never mind the fact that if the planets are on opposite sides of the sun, you'd have to have a relay station for radio signals.
That said, you do see the character grow in a more or less believable way, and he ends up being a likeable young man.

I brought about 35 books with me to Grimsby, for the Wayzgoose Annual Book Arts Fair, on Saturday, April 30. I put them in a bin with a sign that said "Free Books"; about 20 of them were taken, including this one.
The Papertrail (my business), had a booth at the festival. We sold handmade paper, bookbinding and papermaking supplies, and my partner demonstrated the art of marbling, like so
