This book was given to me to turn it into a bookcrossing book and to pass it on - thanks!
Tales of Tenderness and Power draws on writings which have roots in the author's own experience in Botswana. It reflects her fascination with the country's people and their history and her identification with individiuals and their conflicting emotions.
During her lifetime (1937 - 86), Bessie Head was hailed as one of Africa's greatest writers. This anthology of stories, personal observations and historic legends - some previously unpublished - is a fitting tribute to her versatility and power as a story-teller and commentator.

It took me a while to read the book, although I have started several times. In the end I am glad, I took the book and had the patience to read the first stories, which were not as good as the last ones. Especially the stories about South Africa and its lost history of suppression and revolution were great. I felt ashamed to be part of the white people as they were acting in an absolutely inhuman way, even if I never was in favour of Apartheid.

Some of the stories absolutely perfect reflect the feeling one has when being in Southern Africa. I could feel the hot sun burning the land and people and the absence of any cloud that could bring the hope of rain while reading the book.

I would never have searched for the book in any bookstore, but thanks to Bookcrossing I was able to read it!

I`ve just started reading but I think it`s funny to find a wandering book. It`s wandering around now for 9 years - that`s quite a long time but it`s still ok.
