Brave New World
7 journalers for this copy...
This is not the prettiest of books - lots of scribblings in the margins, and a very un-stimulating cover - but RoryG has accepted it anyway. I'm sending it to her tomorrow. Happy reading!
Thanks so much for the book! It will go to my growing tbr-pile and I will write more later, when I've read it.
I offered this on the bookrelay site as a part of Got To Get It Moving Again relay. I'll read it before sending it.
This book really made me think. I'm still processing it, but since I started it, I really couldn't put it down. Talking about cultural clashes there... I've thought about things like this before, since people always warn me not to be too excited about things, because then, if it doesn't turn out the way I thought, there's a big disappointment ahead. But in my mind it's better to get excited and disappointed than living content with everything, but living a boring life. I'm ready take the bad in with the good stuff. Of course a world without wars would be wonderful, but not at the cost of humanity. I really enjoyed reading this and I'm sure I'll be processing it for few weeks or so. Maybe I have to get my own copy... :)
Well, I'll be sending this to KarinAlyssa by the end of this week. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did. And I also hope she doesn't mind the writing in the margins.

Received yesterday from Finland, I love to receive books from far-away countries. This one will be in my new bookshelf at university. Thanks RoryG for sharing it through BookRelay.

Going to HeartSong2 to fulfill her wish. Enjoy !
At first, I was trying to decipher the scribblings when I noticed it wasn't in either French, English, German, Italian or Spanish, so I couldn't even understand it. It was probably in Finnish, so I couldn't understand it and after a few pages, they disappeared from my view.
I think that I probably read the novel before in French as the story was quite familiar and I picked my brain to see what would happen in the next chapter and I was often right. Maybe someone had told me the story, but still, it was an amazing read. This book made me think of 1984 by George Orwell, but also of The Handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood and even her latest Oryx and Crake because of the topic. This is genre I can't get tired of as I am afraid that our world could go there as easily as staying on the route I think we're taking.
Thank you RoryG for sharing it through BookRelay, Merci !

Just finished reading. Hmm. What do I think of it. I liked the "death deconditioning" scene. As a nurse, I've been witness to a variety of deaths. Some of them have been very difficult to witness, occasionally I will feel admiration for the way a dying person and their family cope. To me, the death deconditioning was yet another way to cope with the experience of death, and it seemed just as contrived and awkward as some I've witnessed in person.
The lengths the "civilized people" will go to to be "comfortable" are quite remarkable. I supposed some people believe antidepressants are the soma-drug of the 21st century, but I disagree!
The "dehumanizing" parts of the book really bothered me. Much the same way I felt when I read the Handmaid's Tale. Because of that, I can't say I ENJOYED the book! But it is an imaginative, thought-provoking creation none-the-less.

A great surprise for me. I just "caught" this in my mail box! I had forgotten it was coming!! Thank you.
It had some interesting ideas. I'm glad that I read it. However, I will not be reading it again in the future.
I really love 1984 and Handmaid's Tale and had heard that this was along those same lines. It has similar themes but is not written in a way that I could really appriciate the message.
Now to find someone to pass it on to.
