I've read the LOTR triology, so now it's time to work backwards and read this one!
I finished this book this evening and I have some mixed feelings about it. I don't mind that Tolkien's style is very different from the LOTR books, but there didn't seem to be as much depth to the characters. Gandalf seemed silly at times, and I still don't feel like I know Bilbo very well. Also, the pacing was weird to me. Although weeks and months were supposed to be passing, I never really got that feeling through the writing. Anyway, the tale itself was enjoyable.

I'm not maintaining a classroom library anymore, so I'm going to keep this at home for my daughters when they are older.
