The best comic fantasy novel that I've read recently. It works well as a fantasy rather than just being a series of jokes strung together.
At the weekend I will be posting this to Lucycat, who mentioned on her wish list that she would like to read more of Tom Holt's books.
Thank you *so* much Isabel - indeed I did and indeed I would! It might linger on this pesky TBR mountain range for a while, but I'll list it in my profile in the hope that someone requests next read and bumps it to the top of the pile sharpish! ;O)
Update 30/6/05
Books like this make me wonder why on earth I bother reading anything else. Absolutely fantastic - incredibly inventive, wonderfully funny and a rip-roaring adventure to boot. Marvellous stuff, and very highly recommended.
P.S. I particularly enjoyed the cataloguing of the mysterious contents of the basement...;O)
I'll be taking this one along to the Unconvention with me tomorrow as it has a part to play in Jen's Very Special Project. I hope the eventual recipient enjoys it every bit as much as I did. :O)

This took a wee while to get moving, but once it did...
I loved Rosie, and for some reason the two Victorian employees of J.W.Wells and Co. put me in mind of some strange comedy double act.
The inventory of the basement and the swords in the stones were particular highlights - and I knew there was a reason I didn't like chocolate-covered raisins.

I come from Africa so this "bookcrossing" is new to me. What a grand idea.I am going to let it go as soon as I work out how.
