Having heard so much about it I was somewhat disappointed by the story. I was not convinced by the intrigue.

Vooowwww ! What a great read ! Maybe it’s because I’ve been waiting such a long time for it, but I really really really enjoyed the 10 days spent with this marvellous book !! I totally immersed myself in the plot, pictured the familiar places (Paris, my haven), dutifully tried to guess at the numerous riddles (I was so happy to find the solution of the last but one enigma), and pursued the reading in my dreams…sheer happiness !!
I will certainly try another Dan Brown’s book…
THANKS again fannynatalie!
I will quickly forward it to Boucli.

It's my fourth Dan Brown's book, having read "deception point", "angels and demons" and "digital fortress" before...
As for the other, it was a well paced story, not easy to let down, with riddles that you try to solve along with the characters (same as bilken, I was jumping on my sofa when I found the last but one !!! ;-))).
Since Bilken already added a picture of "the last supper", I'm adding a picture of a "cryptex"...
However, maybe due to the mass of information to be given (to Sophie and to the reader), I found it sometimes went a bit too slow (something I didn't experience in "angels and demons" or in "deception point" (though in those cases the time frame in which the story is taking place is a bit too short to be believed !))...
Since Bilken already added a picture of "the last supper", I'm adding a picture of a "cryptex"...
And there were things that made me jump, because I could not believe them. Two examples (no real spoiler here !!!) :
-p 276 : I can't believe that someone like Sophie, with a Grand-Father as she has doesn't know what a "clef de voûte" (keystone) is in architecture
-p345 :
- "Langdon : "have you heard of King Dagobert ?"
Sophie vaguely recalled the name from a grisly tale in history class "
Sophie's reaction is not real : Ask any french people of Sophie's age the same question, they might not remember anything from their history class, but they'll all remember the first verse of a song featuring King Dagobert !!! :
"le bon roi Dagobert
a mis sa culotte à l'envers
le bon St Eloi
lui dit "O mon roi
votre majesté
est mal culottée"
"c'est vrai" lui dit le roi
je vais la remettre à l'endroit"
...
It's a children's song abour king dagobert who was wearing his pants with the front in the back...
Anyway, it's a gripping read, and you can imagine that Brown wrote the book while thinking about a movie...
Thanks for the ring, fannynatalie, I'm glad I've read this book !
Leaving today for the Netherlands

Leaving today for the Netherlands
It arrived yesterday, just as I was retrieving some books from my parents to double the size of my TBR-pile. This one will squeeze in first anyway.
Thanks for the card, boucli!

Wow! I couldn't put it down either. Now I understand why people say it's such brilliant book. Even though it's no better than some other ones that I've read, I did like it and I'd love to read more of Dan Brown's.
He did seem to make a few slips, though. I'll believe all the stuff he mentions in the paintings is true (although I'm aching to check The Last Supper now...). One thing that I noticed: at some point he says that something that happened in 1099 was a millenium ago (which makes sense only if the story is set in 2099); but later, a church built in 1066 is said to be 900 ears old. Now, which one is it?
Of course, that's a small thing. I did like his none-to-expected hero :-). If I understand it right, Langdon appears in Angels and Demons too, which makes him a little less attractive to me :-(. I hope the other books have another, unlikely hero.
I'll send the book on to Jolanda soon (should be able to do so tomorrow). Thanks for sharing it, fannynatalie. I hope this one does make it through to you...

And it on its way to Jolanda. Have fun!
Finally time to journal I received this book. I found it in the mail somewhere last week and look forward to the read.
A nice book. I'm afraid my expectations where a bit too high though. I enjoyed the read, but I have to agree with zazou, after hearing so much about it I was kind of dissapointed with the story. Overall a good read.
I've pmed Avaa who send me a message she already read the book and I've pm-ed red-rover about a week ago. I'm still waiting for the address.
