In this book (book four) Alvin is now grown and goes back to spend time with his family and to teach others to be Makers. We also get to see what Calvin; Alvin's brother, is up to. This book is a page turner that I enjoyed a lot.

I wondered as I read book two how long it would take for The Tales of Alvin Maker to become less interesting. Not happening. As I read one book and then move to the next Alvin's story is still going as strong as ever and I find myself eager to read the next one.

I liked this one. It was sort of a departure from the other books in the series; courtroom suspense a'la John Grisham. Still, Card continues to advance the story nicely. I especially enjoyed his nod to The Lord of the Rings in Alvin's song.

Incidentally, there are four pages about two-thirds of the way through the book that are faded beyond readability; a printing error, I guess. These pages don't seem to contain any essential plot, so this was only a minor annoyance.

Thanks again to WingedMan for these great books. This one is going out to dodau tomorrow.

Unfortunatly the blank pages did spoil it a little for me but I still really enjoyed the book. As others have said this series of books just keeps getting better and better. I really can't wait till the next one. Pming Yedrake now to confirm it's wanted there.

I really liked the part about the trial, it was a bit unusual, but well described. I'm sending the book together with Prentice Alvin tomorrow.

This is a 6-book series. I have trouble faulting the author for leaving a novel as a cliff-hanger (although I loved the last chapter). I hadn't realized until I started reading this novel that there'd been a 6-year span after the previous book in terms of publishing (followed by a 3-year and 5-year, so there may be a seventh out there in the future ?!?).

I liked the stories told here, the three tales (Alvin, Calvin, Peggy) and how they twined together and apart. I enjoyed the story that was told here, but it leaves me wanting uncomfortably more. I guess that's why I've already got the next one in my TBR pile.
