Flags of Our Fathers

this is a well-written heart felt account of the six flag-raisers on iwo jima in 1945 written by a son of the last remaining flagraiser who was inspired after discovering the navy cross in his father's belongs after his death in 1994. although slightly contrived in spots, overall this is a good narrative of the hell that the soldiers experienced in the south pacific. for a history book it is an easy read due in part that it is anecdotal. it helps the reader to realize the hell that our forbearers fought through and if nothing else should make one just once say "thank you" to the selfless acts that were performed before many of our times.
