Got this back from Fishin and started it last night. It's got a very strong beginning. I didn't want to stop reading to go to bed.
This book left me wanting to dive right into book four. From start to finish I did not want to put this one down. Great book! It's been thrilling to read about Alvin from his childhood and now in this book to see the kind of man he is becoming and how his gifts are developing. Mr. Card has done a wonderful job with the characters and the flow of the story in this series.

I've been eagerly awaiting this one!
Sometimes when I read a series I begin to lose interest in the books at some point. Not the case with the Alvin Tales which are keeping me wanting to read more. This is my first experience reading Orson Scott Card but I will say he is quickly moving onto my favorite authors list.
Book Three is even better than book two!

I received this book today in the mail. I will read it and post a review ASAP.
Prentice Alvin is another great installment in this series. Card continues to weave an outstanding fantasy tale. I didn't really get the part about the plow, but I'm sure I will as I continue with the next few books. Thanks again to WingedMan for the bookray.
This book will be going out to dodau in the next couple of days.

I was a bit snowed under with rings for the last fortnight but then being ill last week gave me the chance to work through them. I looked at the pile last night and there were two, one of which I was about to start. Oh good I thought I can start on the TBR pile this week, stop hubby moaning that it's growing. Then of course today two more rings arrived in the post. LOL. Guess hubby will have to moan a bit longer.
This was excellent again. All three of these books have had me hooked and I really want to read more. I'm going to pm some of the others on this ring and see what we can arrange.

Received in the mail yesterday. I'm putting this one on top of my TBR pile, and should be able to start it in the next couple of days.
to WingedMan for organizing the rays and to YeDrake for mailing them to me. |
I finished this last night. This series really is more like a serial book than a series of books. It's all one story, and each book is a section of that larger story. After the first book I didn't really feel like I was getting into it, but after three, I'm hungering for the next book, and to find out how (I read ahead on book titles) the Crystal City gets built as well as what happens to the various characters that we've gotten to know so far. It will also be interesting to see how the sixth book (written years after the first 5) adds to what the author apparently felt was a complete story arc.
I enjoyed the hint that the author gave in the opening chapters about what would happen at the end. It drove me through the book, and put a part of my mind to thinking about what might happen and to whom and how and why, like a mystery. I also enjoyed the parallel story of Little Peggy Guester (she is one of the ones that I most want to know about the future of, partially because she doesn't look at her own).
Finally, there were a couple of places where the author dropped out of 3rd person storytelling that tweaked me up out of the story. One was when he introduced the character of Daisy. I didn't need the aside about it being a funny name. This is just a little nit-pik though.
