Josephine Alibrandi is 17, and in her final year of school. Dealing with her mum and the ways of her Nonna are daunting enough as she prepares for her exams. But Josie is about to discover real life gets in the way of her carefully-made plans. She suddenly has to deal with having her father around for the first time in her life, falling in love and uncovering her family's secret background. Despite all the turmoil, this is the year Josie discovers that emancipation doesn't mean escaping from your past. Sometimes you need to face up to who you are in order to set yourself free..

I ended reading the book today - although written in English I read it within 2 days... The conflicts of a young adult are described by Josi - I could follw them easily and they are well-illustrated.

I will bring it to the post tomorrow. Have fun with it, katayoun!
it HERE! very uncommon to take this long, probably due to pre/post christmas overload. still it's safe and sound here. but it's a case of "when it rains it pours" got 4 more books in the wings and then it's this, will try to update status in 2 weeks and let the book go in a month, though won't be sooner than that, please feel free to give me a kick or something if it's taking too long! thanks Sunneschii and rotewoelfin!
got through alot of books at an amazing time :) and i'm picking this up. will be back!!
an interesting, fun and nice read. i could quite understand some of the woes of josie, of not belonging really, of being an immigrant and then ofcourse alot of them were josie and her theatrics and growing up!! :) the tone of the book was quite fun, without "brat"sy, you could see the young woman and feel her without feeling that the author was being cute (like some of the princess diaries books are beginning to feel !!:)) so overall a most enjyable read and thanks Sunneschii and rotewoelfin.
the book is ready to be mailed, though i'll wait a week or so, so that new year, and the craziness that descends on post offices is over.

sorry for the delay, the book is mailed today to Ftarazu, thanks Sunneschii it was a lovely book.
The book is with me now. looking forward to start reading it but I have 4 rings in hands now so maybe it will take a bit... will try to read it in one month!
I have enjoied the book a lot, it was a very fun and nice read. Its an easy book but at the same time makes you think... I remembered a lot about my teen time and all those problems that are much more in our head. I think the author was very successful in showing that through Josephine Alibrandi.
It will be send of to Kiki66 this week.

Well, I am already through it... I had a lot of time during weekend and so ;-)
I enjoyed reading it though sometimes I couldn't relate to Josi's problems... maybe then it showed than I am actually 20y older than her :-/
But on the whole it is a nice read, witty and I had to grin ever so often... and I can understand the problems "ethnic" people have in a foreign country...
Has anyone seen the movie yet??
Will mail this to Kat on Monday...

from Port du Crouesty, Bretqgne, France:
A foreign world for me was described in this book. Foreign because I wouldn't have expected it from a place like Sidney in the 90ths. Maybe in the south of Italy, in Sicily, but not in Australia.
Josie is very torn between her Italian roots and her Australian birthright. While her Italian community watches over her every step, to the original Australians (whoever they are in aland of immigrants) classify her as a wog.
Another thing that puzzled me was Josies struggle for good marks. They seem so much more important than they ever were for me or my freinds. Maybe it's easier to be a teenager in Switzerland?
