From the back cover:

This is the story of Lilian Singer, born on a wild night in the year of Federation' into a stifling household which totally fails to subdue her.

Madness, cruelty and sexuality permeate the household but Lilian's sights are set on education, love and finally her own trascendent forms of independence.

Lilian Singer is, or becomes, that rare being: an eccentric true to her own self whose story reaches out to touch and delight the most discerning reader.

Lilian's story is the most loved of Kate Grenville's fictional creations. Lilian Singer radiates energy and vitality through every page of this striking work.

Winner of the Australian/Vogel Literary Award.

I found the 1st person viewpoint irritating - not sure why. On reflection, I think the strength of this book is that although the character is highly eccentric, it is easy to relate to her...

To be released at the meetup in Osborne Park

Picked this up at the Perth meetup today and have put aside to read. I think my friend may enjoy this one so I will pass it onto her before re-releasing.
