Beautifully written.

The stories of two men from different generations whose lives have been transformed by war. A young boy, Jakob Beer, is rescued from the mud of a buried Polish city during World War II and taken to an island in Greece by an unlikely saviour, the scientist/humanist Athos Roussos.

This book came as a lovely surprise in my bag of Unconventional goodies. It was such a lovely thought on the part of the organisers to have checked our wish lists and gifted us with exactly the books we wanted to read. A big thank you to all involved with the organisation.

I didnt realise I had already obtained a copy of this book from Herschelian at The Writer picnic the weekend prior to the Unconventin. I will edit this entry to reflect my views once I've read my other copy.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Left outside consultation room 1 on the first floor. There is always a stack of mangy old newspapers so I put the book on top with another. I know I always have to wait for ages to see the Doctor or the Nurse and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. Hopefully this makes the wait time go faster for someone.

I got the book through amazon.de...I had to read it for a university seminar, at the beginning it was quite hard...I felt a bit lost in it but the more I went on the more I was caught by Anne Michaels poetic language. It's not necessary to fill the page with words to let meanings pass thorugh...she can do this with short sentences or paragraphs..it's so intense!and it's so delicate...
