Picked this up at the last bookcrossing mini meetup but accidentally caught it under dh's log on. Oh the joys of having two bookcrossers on the one computer :^)

Have listened to this in the car whilst on our travels and it is quite enjoyable.

I usually find it quite hard to listen to tapes and also passionately avoid abridged books, but really enjoyed this while painting rooms... have never read any of Bill Bryson's books but will now look out for them!

To be released at tonight's meetup

With a pile of other books - trying to catch up with releases!

We were returning from Fremantle when we thought we'd check the release alert, when it came out the day before yesterday. There were so many people at the gazebo looking at the long necked turtles! And there in the gazebo was a huge pile of books in bags. Wow! What a surprise! I was delighted to spot this book in the pile as Bryson is a favourite and it is going to be a joy to listen to. Fortunately, I drive a car which still has a cassette player!! Thank you so much for your generosity, twinmaker. I hope we meet one day. As we left, one family remained and we told them that the books were a gift from you ... The dad came over to have a look at once!! :) Thank you also to libertine101 for the initial release and to everyone else too .

I enjoyed listening to these tapes. Bryson did not disappoint. The audio was easy listening, while driving, interesting and amusing. Mr888 enjoyed it too. I only wish that UK was at our doorstep so that we could go exploring whenever we wished ...... sigh!!

I came across this link from another reader and I thought I'd post it here:
10 Places I want to See in UK after reading this Book
(The pictures are great ... though the reader did not enjoy the book as much as I did.)

If the link doesn't work try this cached link as I think that the blog is no longer available. (20/03/13)

I will be mailing this across to my sister who has actually lived there and it will be interesting to hear what she says. Thank you once again :)

Journal Entry 11 by Tome.Raider at Mount Coot-tha, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, January 21, 2015
Bill Bryson is always a favourite. Thought it was particularly quaint that it required a tape recorder - perfect!! Letting it loose in the wild.......may it travel far and wide, like Bryson's journey!
