Fun to read about all of the strange, interesting people down in Savannah during this time. A murder mystery is thrown in, but that's only part of the story.
this is one of my favorite books and a personal mission to get as many bookcrossers to read and enjoy. may put this up as a bookray or a RABCK
Its a bookray!
List of participants will also be in the book. Please try to finish it in a month if you can, and contact the next person on the list for their mailing info.

Hey there,
Just received this in today's mail, and I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks!

I had read this several years ago, and remembered in re-reading it just how much I enjoyed it the first time. The setting reminds me so much of home, and the characters are shimmery and a little haunting.
Wonderful read, thanks for the ring. I am forced to head out now and buy my own copy, as I can tell that I will be reaching for it again.

Got it in the mail yesterday and have already started reading it! And it came with some wonderfully interesting postcards!
A wonderfully written work of nonfiction! I love when a true story reads like a novel; of course, it helps that the author had so many colorful characters to describe! I was completely amused and enthralled by the telling of life in Savannah, GA and the eccentricities of each of the residents there. With each turn of the page, I was curious and anxious to see who I would meet next not quite knowing what to expect and surprised each time.
In the background there was the ever-lingering murder trial of Savannah socialite Jim Williams who is accused of murdering Danny Hansford in his own home. Sure that his standing in the community will clear up any problems and life can continue as normal, he is mystified when the trial continues on and soon finds himself entangled in a mess that only his local VooDoo advisor can save him from.
Entertaining from start to finish!
---As soon as I get the next address, I will ship it on! Thanks for sharing!

Okay, this is heading to the post office today...finally...on it's way to the next name on the list!
Okay, this is heading to the post office today...finally...on it's way to the next name on the list!
It came in the mail today.
I spent the first half of the book trying to guess who was going to kill who and the second half of the book waiting to see an excess of money free solve problems that would sink a poorer man. I had trouble really getting into the book because I found the author's personality completely bland. I know he was probably just down placing himself to highlight the other characters, but it bothered me none-the-less.
I'll send the book on when I get the address.

It arrived today, safe and sound. I look forward to reading it.
Edited December 4, 2005. I enjoyed this book a lot. I'd already seen the movie, but the book gives quite a bit more detail on some of the lesser characters. I'm glad I saw the movie, because it made the character of Chablis that much more believable to me. A fun, gossipy read.
Off to the next participant.

Journal Entry 12 by Satyanarayani from Almada, not specified not specified on Tuesday, March 28, 2006
has just arrived. :D
I caught this in the post this morning. I have another tiny book in front of this (less than 300 pages, I'm on p.172) then I'll get started on this. Thanks to dandoodle and satyanarayani for sharing :-)
I remember seeing an advert for the movie a few years ago but didn't realise it was a non-fiction work. As other readers have commented it's hard to believe with all the colourful characters Berendt writes about. I found Joe's comments about which movie star would be playing him rather ironic :-) I kept imaging Kevin Spacey as Jim Williams, probably because he plays him in the film.
As the back of the book comments, I really want to visit Savannah and see the places described in the book. This has been an excellent read and, at times, I had to remind myself this book was based on fact.
RayneQueen has been asked to be skipped so I'll send a PM to AmberC.

AmberC got back to me and asked to be skipped on this one. Due to no more participants I am changing this book to the available status on my bookshelf. In the meantime if anyone wants to continue this ray, let me know.
