Journal Entry 2 by Lytteltonwitch at Deans Bush (Riccarton Bush) in Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, November 26, 2005
I'm a woman who likes to read, but this year, no novels, only text books!
I'm currently on my own, but just two weeks ago I started getting to know the man I was with when we 'caught' a BookCrossing book in the wild!
As a romantic way to end the day of only our third time meeting, my new friend and I were taking a slow pre-dusk walk. We'd been at the car races at the Ruapuna track most of the day. He suggested a quiet walk somewhere together as he'd like to spend more time with me before having to drop me off back at my place.
We checked the map book wondering where to go; I pointed out Riccarton House and Bush, knowing that it is near enough to my home. Well, with the impressive mature trees, lawns all around, and with the late afternoon sun shining emerald through the leaves, it was a delightful start to our Riccarton House experience. We took the path along the stream, past the big House, towards the pioneers' Deans Cottage.
We were several paces away from the particular tree, but my friend was curious about an object he could see at the base of it, so I waited while he went over to it. He picked it up for us. It was a book in a plastic bag, and it was clearly labelled as a free book. On further investigation we found the Bookcrossing details on a flyer insde the book. I thought that it was a really lovely aspect to our third 'date'. (The native bush walk there was great too.)
'Albatross' by Evelyn Anthony and 'BookCrossing' will now provide an extra topic of conversation for future dates together. (The next date has been set. Dinner with two other couples, at the end of the week.)
