I've loved this book for years - literally! Read it when I was a kid and read it to my daughters years later. They both loved it too. It's sparse and lean and so beautifully written. Amazing series too - the books all so different and everything being revisited and revisioned in later books. (Tehanu's the only one I find very difficult, though it's satisfying as well, once you can get over the horrible bits.)

Anyway, registering this to see off to day-zee, who has the series on her wish list. Hope you enjoy it!

Yay! A copy that I can read on the bus! What a fabulous book this is! I have read it before (the whole trilogy) then "lent it to a friend" and, well you know how that popular story pans out. Once the whole set of books is collected, I will read them and pass them on to my Father.--I'll get him BXing yet!

I stole this book right out from under day-zee's nose. she's so far behind in her "paperwork" she'll never notice. *snickers connivingly*
there is something quirky about the way this woman writes that I can't put my finger on. She seems to pass over so much, lazily, but at the same time keeps my undivided attention. There is no lack for a complete story at all.
I am gonna go steal the rest of them as soon as she aquires them hehehe.

Don't worry I live with her. She'll get it back;)

This book has become part of day-zee's "Earthsea bookbag/bookring"!!

It is requested by day-zee, and the rest of the people on this list that these 6 books are kept as a set. It was a long project to collect them, and there are people who are excitedly waiting for these books to arrive when you are done reading, journalling, and passing them on. Please enjoy this series at your own pace, and journal each book at least once to let its old companions know that it is okay, and is with friends. Enjoy! Each book is from a different printing, and from different bookcrossers! It is interesting to see the different artwork, and the bookcrossing techniques used on each of the books. I am about to start the series myself, and then it is off to...

1. MyDaddy: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada [yes--he really is my Daddy]
2. millerbug: Cortez, Colorado, USA
3. [wishes to be skipped for now] monast: Petaling Jaya, Salangor, Malaysia
4. catsalive: Rooty Hill, New South Wales, Australia
5. billhookbabe: Derby, Derbyshire, UK
6. blaisezabini12: Cluj-napoca, Cluj, Romania
7. kubchen: Cork, Co. Cork, Ireland
8. sweetf: Bridgwater, England, UK
9. Ceili: Baldwinsville, New York, USA
10. pheelya: Eldersburg, Maryland, USA
11. lady-sybill: Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
12. jurraffe: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
back home to day-zee! :)

When you are finished with the whole set, please put them back into it's home-made bag, and wrap it with a bubble envelope [you can probably re-use the one it was sent to you in, if you tape over the addresses]. Then PM the next person on the list under your name to get their address, and send it to them. [but don't be a pest!] ;p If any problems arise, please contact day-zee and she'll see what she can do to make things all better. :D Remember there are six books. It may take a while for them to get to you, and I will highlight people's names on this list when they have recieved the series so you know how the progress is going. :D Happy Bookcrossing!!

day-zee's recommended order is:

Just as good as I remembered it! :D I'm excited to read the full cycle, as I have only read the trilogy before.

I first read this book about 28 years ago, and thouroughly enjoyed it and the 2 following books in the trilogy. My daughter "day-zee" has just given me a copy for re-reading and I'm excited to find out that there are now more "Earthsea" books to read. Here I go...

This is I think the third time I read this book. I sure like it. It's an easy read, but I can still find myself pulled into it. Very creatively written, giving a sense of the history and time behind the story without filling pages with historical details that I would have trouble remembering anyway! I'll be moving on to the rest of the books in this series as soon as I get them from darling daughter "day-zee" :o)

Thanks, day-zee. They are all present & accounted for, having arrived in their own little baggy. I look forward to reading them all. I hope I get some months to do so before sending them off on the UK leg of their journey.

Very nice, and simply written. I've never read any of the Earthsea books before but this was enjoyable. Obviously more for kids than adults but I'm still looking forward to the rest of the series. I miss hoeg! the little otak: it was unfair to kill him.

Thanks, day-zee.

Received today in a lovely velvet bag. I was wondering the other day how soon I would get them, knowing they would have to travel so far. I will take a while to read the lot, two books to read beforehand. Many thanks day-zee and catsalive.

Found this book fascinating and a great read. The development of Ged and his story is great as well as a fully realised world which has the capacity to develop on and on. This is my first read of this series and I am looking forward to the rest.

This amazing box of books has finally reached my home:) They look great! And the package is wonderful:D
I will post more comments after reading them:)

19 November: I finished the book last week but I got a chance to add some comments this weekend. Like it says in some of the reviews it is pure classic fantasy C.S.Lewis's style and I loved that! The book even reminded me in some points of the 5th Narnia book (the Dawn Trader one):) My favorite concept from the whole book was the 'true name' thing! It was a central, powerful idea who really influenced the plot.
I'll keep this in its little box until I finish the next books in the series:)
