This one is on its way to a fellow bookcrosser as part of a bookrelay on bookrelay.com.. hope you enjoy!!
received in the mail today. i will read it asap. thanks!
i didn't like this as much as i liked "a prayer for owen meany" or "the world according to garp", though it was still a very enjoyable book. it wasn't quite as tragic as some of irvings other books which is a nice change.

It's here! I'll get on this shortly so it can be on its way. Thanks - I've really been looking forward to reading it.
Irving really took this story full circle from the orphanage/abortion clinic and back. It was really difficult to see the situations the characters got themselves into with their little social lies, but it was so genuine. We all have things that we keep from each other that if they were told would clear the air for people to move forward. Well done!
I forgot to journal this when I put it in the mail earlier this week. It is on its way to Brewster13.

Just arrived in my mailbox today. I look forward to reading while at the Lake next week :-) Thanks for sharing!!
I enjoyed this story, but unfortunately I kept getting the movie scenes in my mind, and I think that took away from some of the experience of reading this great book. I always prefer to read the book before seeing a movie! Even so, I did enjoy this one, and I will be sending it off early next week.
Thanks for sharing!

Mailed to stubee today - went airmail so should arrive quickly. Enjoy :-)
Thanks, it's arrived safe and sound. Either myself or KT-J will read this shortly, it all depends on who finishes their current reading first.
I've just finished my book so will be starting this next :o)
Well, I'm a bit mixed on this one! I was really looking forward to this as my mum has lent me A Prayer for Owen Meany and told me I'd love it so I was expecting to really enjoy this too, but I found it really slow to read which lessened the enjoyment.
I liked the story, albeit a fairly depressing subject matter, and the way it circled back to the beginning and I really liked most of the characters. Overall, I'm glad I read it but it was tough going!
Thanks tabby-cat-owner for sharing this. Stubee has decided to skip reading it and so had antigone1 so I've PMd ritao and will send this on once I've received an address.

I posted this to ritao on behalf of KT-J today (31/10/07)! :-)
Got the book just when I was cleaning the house last week, and then forgot to register it. Thank you for sending it, I'll have a few books before this one, but I really try to get to it as soon as possible. :)

Whew, for some reason, this one was a very heavy read! On one hand, I really liked the book and especially the characters of Candy and Rose Rose. On the other, at times it really felt like a struggle to get through the book. I do feel that the beginning of the story was unnecessarily long, with the vast descriptions of Homer's foster homes, but of course it was necessary to describe his background to make the reader understand his character. Also, I really wasn't too keen on the graphic medical descriptions of abortions etc.
Thank you for the reading opportunity! Will send it forward ASAP.

I've just finished The Cider House Rules this morning and will message the next reader for their details now and send asap!
This book has taken me ages to read, partly because I had to stop and read my book club book in the middle! Sorry about that!
I am an Irving fan and I enjoyed this book although the more I read the more I find his work to be a little over-similar. This one is better than the World According to Garp but not as good as A Prayer for Owen Meany in my eyes. I agree with other readers about it maybe being a little long, and I wish there were more chapters and more paragraphs to break things up. Like all Irvings other books I have read, I really liked the characters - Homer, Melony, Fuzzy Stone and Larch are all great inventions of Irving's mind and I won't forget them in a hurry! I didn't personally have a problem with reading details about abortion, these things did and do happen and I found it interesting and honest. All in all a pleasure to read.
Thanks!

The book has arrived! Thanks bookwormnicky and tabby-cat-owner. I'll read it as soon as I've finished my current book.
I loved this as much as I did Garp, and it was an easier read than Meany. I'm glad there were still some surprises in it for me, having seen the film a few years ago, and I especially enjoyed Melony, although she wasn't very likeable, she was full of life and incapable of lying. As for the film, what an excellent Homer Wells Tobey Mcguire was!
am pming the next reader now for their address, thanks to all for sharing this great book.
