Life of Pi

Wonderful book of adventure ansurvival and mystery.
Sent yesterday via mail to fellow bookcrosser in Germany. Part of a Book Relay
Got here today - thank you so much Bekainindia!!! This book smells different form any other book I've smelled (The first thing I do when I get a new book is to open it in the centre and smell it - with new books, you can tell the different publishers apart). This one so doesn't smell like anything I've ever smelled before! I'm very impressed!
Finished the book last night (but not before I had everyone at the English Department library smell the book - no one could say what it smells of, but no one thought it unpleasent!). I don't usually read books that everyone reads - I tend to wait for them to get off the bestseller lists (especially when the German title "Shipwreck with Tiger" and the picture on the front don't really appeal to me...). But I read "Life of Pi", nonetheless. I enjoyed every page of it - though, a fellow vegetarian, I found some of the food stories a bit upsetting to my stomach, especially after having stuffed myself with veggie sushi all evening! But I loved the way characters were introduced - especially Richard Parker. It took me ages to get that he was the tiger!!! And the mysterious carnivourous island - what a great idea!
All in all it's one of those books that I enjoyed reading, but I don't necessarily have to read it again...

BOOKRING: (looks like it's going to be a ring as I've got some non-bc friends who'd like to read it when it gets back - maybe it'll turn them into bc-ers!)
Hey everyone, thanks for joining - hope you'll like the book - I sure did!!! Could you do me a teeny-weeny favour though? I love postcards and I'd love it if you could put one in the book so that it gets passed along to me... Thank you!!! PS: This is obviously not a requirement for joining the ring :-)

Sent to Pluisje...
I had a bit of a slow start reading this book, but once I got to part two I was so intrigued that I couldn't stop reading.
A charming piece of imagination.
Th sweet smell of New Delhi is still detectable when you put your nose deep in between the pages.
Star-Light, it might be that you'll find some New Zealand grains of sand...I read part of the book lying on Hahei beach.
Will send asap.

There it is...on its way across the Tasman to star-light!
I have just arrived home from a business trip and found the book here waiting for me. It was a relief to see it as it seemed to take its time crossing the Tasman. I will start reading it as soon as I finish the book I'm reading now.
What a great book! I was captivated from the beginning to the end. I loved the language and imagery, especially the part where Pi describes what would happen if Tokyo was turned upside down and how it would rain more than cats and dogs. I found Pi's devotion to three religions amusing, especially when his secret was discovered by his family and the "wise men" from each religion.
After the Tsimtmum sank I felt so sorry for Pi I couldn't wait for him to be rescued!
And I even picked up a few tips on how to survive in a lifeboat, although I hope there are no tigers on board with me! :)
Thanks to SudoKris for having me as part of this ring.

Posted to weareatthebeach. I hope it has a safe journey across the Pacific.
This book arrived but I am behind on my reading right now - so I am going to PM the next participant to keep the book moving.
Sending this to CaptainJack!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm looking forward to reading it.
And I love the little red bracelets. They are great! Were they from the previous reader? Or should I take one and leave the rest for the readers who follow me? I think I will wear them while I have this book, then put them in the bag for the next reader to enjoy. Very cool!

Just recieved. Going to finish up the book I'm on now and then read it.

I just got it on Friday as part of the book ray, I'm sure it's going to be good. I don't think I smell the sweet smell that was talked about, but I'm so excited to read it!
I loved Life of Pi! It was well written and moving. It really captured my mind and I've been telling everyone to read it. If ever I'm stuck in a boat I'm sure having read Life Of Pi will help me, if not survive, at least to remain sane. I'm sending it off tomorrow. Unfortunatly it kind of smelles like smoke and is slightly more beat up becaue it was in our house when there was a small kitchen fire.

I had read chapters 78 to 93 of this book a couple of months ago when I was helping my little brother find poetic devises for an English project - the book seems to be a favourite among English teachers. I think having cheated in the reading like that spoiled the book less for me than all the people who had described the book wrong to me did. I don't know why people summarise the book as a nice story about a boy on a raft with animals.
The story flipped back and forth from being very funny to being very disturbing. It was a good mix. The humour made the upsetting parts of the story seem more real (if a story is all awful, it's easy to numb yourself to it). I think that the recorded conversation at the end of the book is brilliant.

Got back home. Thanks a lot everyone!
