Childhood's End
1 journaler for this copy...
This is the first Arthur C. Clarke book I've ever read and, as with John Irving, I have to ask myself, "What took me so long?" It has been sitting in my bookcase for over ten years, just waiting for me. I'm glad I finally read it.
In Hocus Pocus the protagonist declares Childhood's End to be a masterpiece. I would have to heartily concur with Eugene Debs Hartke and - by extension, I believe - Kurt Vonnegut.
This book is thought-provoking and excellently written, with an ending that is inevitable and heart-wrenching. I highly recommend it.
I will be keeping the original book that I've had all these years, but another copy fell into my hands (so to speak) and I'm eager for it to find appreciative eyes and gentle fingers.
