To Sir Robert Blenkinsopp, his frail exquisite wife is just another possession - to be used, abused and discarded. With her six month old baby there seems to be nothing Amy can do put return to his power after she tries to escape.
Duffy the gamekeeper falls for Amy. When Amy faces up to her husband and he is found unconscious at the bottom of the stairs, Amy believes a new life will start.
But Sir Robert is not dead. Imprisoned in his wreck of a body, he is plotting a vicious revenge on Amy, on her children, and the man who has come to love her.
