An excellent book by a great writer!

I believe it is important for one who wishes to learn strategy or philosophy of any kind to first understand the historical context which produced the ideas. For anyone preparing to read On War or any of Clausewitz' writings this book is a must-read. It covers the entire span of his life and describes in fascinating detail the conditions which led to his conclusions.
