Secret History (Bookray!)
6 journalers for this copy...
I've been keeping my eyes out for books on the "Top 100 Wishlist Wishes" list and have been picking some of the books up. I now have 2 copies of "Secret History" and thought I'd send one out as a ray to those who are interested. The other copy is hardback and I'd like to read it before I pass it along to someone down the road.
Here is the final shipping order for this ray:
1. katilo, IL
2. kelwood, OH
3. KarenZero, NY
4. yourotherleft, PA <---- received 01/14/05
5. Davitraka, FL
6. SudoKris, Germany
7. caffcaff, UK
8. sandyundead, UK
9. katweeble, UK
10. wiblick, Ireland
I'll be sending this book out by the end of the week (hopefully). Since this is a ray, it's never too late to join, but you have to be willing to ship anywhere.
Thanks to everyone who joined! Let me know if there is a problem with the shipping order.

RELEASE NOTES:
I enjoyed this book, although there were some parts that tended to drag a bit (explanations that I thought could have been left out). It was intriguing and kept me interested all the way to the end! Thanks for sharing!
It's now on its way to next person on the list!

Just received in the mail today. I'm looking forward to starting this later this week. Thanks!
I can see why this book has been so heralded - it is marvelous writing. But like the Greek and Roman tragedies the students in the story read and study, it is filled with disappointment, anguish, and despair. And the characters, though well developed, weren't exactly likable. As they moved in and out of their alcohol-induced fog you could feel the tension build. It was certainly interesting, but not necessarily "fun." I'm glad I finally had a chance to read it.
Mailing off to KarenZero today via media mail. Thanks SandDanz for sharing.
The book arrived safely and I am looking forward to reading it!!
thanks again for sharing the book!

Hello!
I finished the book a few days ago and am just waiting to receive Davitraka's address - hopefully I'll be able to send it before I go away for the holidays!
I enjoyed the book and thought it was particularly well-written, although I found the characters unlikeable (althought that was probably the point). The story itself was a little haunting and I found myself thinking about the book days after I read it. The writing style also reminded me of Atwood. Overall, a good read (although I think I enjoyed "The Little Friend" more). Thanks for sharing the book!!!!!

UPDATE: 12/29/04 - still waiting for Davitraka's address...

UPDATE 01/05/05 - waited two weeks (extra time for the holidays!) and no word, so I will send it to the next person on the list this week! 01/07/04 - waiting for yourotherleft's address...
best, Karen

This came in the mail today. I'll read it and pass it on as soon as I can. Thanks!
This is probably the best book I've read this year. I don't know if I can put into words what made me like it so much, but I was almost late for work a few times just because I couldn't manage to put it down. ;-) I really enjoyed the quality of writing. There was a certain way in which Tartt managed to say just enough to get you to draw your own conclusions instead of stating things outright that made me feel like I was getting more instead of less out of the book. I felt like I knew each of the characters, even if I wouldn't like them if I met them in real life. They were far from perfect, indeed even unpleasant, but Tartt still managed to make me sympathetic to them as the group deteriorates after the crime. It kind of reminded me of "Crime and Punishment" except on a group instead of individual level. And I think I liked it better...
Anyhow, thanks so much for sharing, SandDanz, and for your patience! Sorry for holding it up so long.
Davitraka's profile says that she is inactive, so I am going to mail this to Sudokris today.
