In high school, I read an excerpt from this book, and from that, I had no desire to read the rest of it. That's too bad, because it is an excellent book, and I'm enjoying it very much now.

This is the story of Pip, a boy from humble beginnings who suddenly and unexpectedly is made wealthy. He does not know the identity of his benefactor, but he thinks he knows. When he is grown, he has reason to regret the way he had treated some people close to him. The themes of love, rejection, repentence, and forgiveness are masterfully woven in the plot.
