TBR but once done will send out in a ring.
Book Description:
The heart-stopping new Dr. Kay Scarpetta thriller from America's #1-bestselling crime writer.
Dr. Kay Scarpetta, now freelancing from south Florida, returns to the city that turned its back on her five years ago.
In Trace, Scarpetta travels to Richmond, Virginia, at the odd behest of the recently appointed Chief Medical Examiner, who claims that he needs her help to solve a perplexing crime. When she arrives, however, Scarpetta finds that nothing is as she expected: her former lab is in the final stages of demolition; the inept chief isn't the one who requested her after all; her old assistant chief has developed personal problems that he won't reveal; and a glamorous FBI agent, whom Marino dislikes instantly, meddles with the case.
Deprived of assistance from colleagues Benton and Lucy, who are embroiled in what first appears to be an unrelated attempted rape by a stalker, Scarpetta is faced with investigating the death of a fourteen-year-old girl, working with the smallest pieces of evidence-traces that only the most thorough hunters can identify. She must follow the twisting leads and track the strange details in order to make the dead speak-and to reveal the sad truth that may be more than even she can bear.

Great style as always but slow to get going and get this connected. Rush ending that did not satisfy but I love revisiting the dusfunctional characters in Kay Scarpetta's world. Was somewhat all over the proverbial road. Would touch on things and then not conclude/wrap it up. Not the best but still a decent read.
I am sending this book out on a very short ring.

Got this in the mail today as part of a ring. Will start it tomorrow!
Seemed like Cornwell had a difficult time bring the plot to fruition. It was like she reached a point and decided she had had enough and just came up with any old ending just to get it overwith. Too bad as I thought the story had a lot going for it. Would like to see the old Scarpetta back getting down and dirty with the dead. Will send off to Sherria ASAP.
Found this in my mailbox today. I have one book to finish, then I'll get to this one. Thanks for sharing it doris!
This definitely wasn't vintage Scarpetta or Cornwall. Things didn't connect well, and the anticipation didn't really build in any significant way. There were lots of things that were left unanswered, including important things like motivation and background. I liked revisiting the characters (like catching up with old friends), but I wish this book had enthralled me the way the earlier novels did. It was ok, but definitely lacking in some areas.
I'll send this on to the next participant as soon as I get an address.

Argh! I can't believe I never registered this book! Sorry! I did not enjoy this at all. I'm very disappointed in Patricia Cornwell. Her past couple of books have just not been up to her usual high standards. I didn't think this one was suspenseful at all and the characters just didn't seem the same as in the other Scarpetta novels. I really didn't care about any of them in this book.
Cherie Pie has asked to be skipped so I will pm the next person and send it out this weekend.

Update 10/15: I thought I had sent this one on a while ago, but just found it on a bookshelf. I contacted the two people in line behind me. The first one wants to be skipped and the next never responded, so I'm going to pm KarinAlyssa.
