Journal Entry 4 by vivdripper from Quincy, Massachusetts USA on Thursday, October 7, 2004
At times I wanted to fling this book across the room because I was so very frustrated by just about every character I met. This was painful to read, but I did find myself caught up in the life of this boy and wanted to get to the end to find out exactly how one can live through such madness and come out the other end with any sort of sanity. The author writes well, I think. I'm off now to do some research on Augusten. Thanks, squirrel for giving me the chance to read this. I'm glad I stuck with it.

Journal Entry 5 by vivdripper from Quincy, Massachusetts USA on Friday, October 8, 2004

This book arrived safe and sound. It looks like a quick and very funny read

Journal Entry 7 by Saphyre from Hammond, Indiana USA on Tuesday, November 16, 2004
It took me loner than I thought to get into this book. But when I did, I couldnt put it down. Many parts of this book were very disturbing andmade me wonder how anyone could have grown up to be normal having lived in a situation like that. And some parts of this book were laugh out loud funny. I really loved the relationship that Augusten had with Natalie. Maybe because it was the least 'insane' relationship Augusten had? I will send this on as soon as I have an address.

Journal Entry 8 by silverstarry from Berkeley, California USA on Friday, December 3, 2004
Just received this - can't wait to read it!

Journal Entry 9 by silverstarry from Berkeley, California USA on Monday, December 6, 2004
I read this book over the weekend, and it was very enjoyable. Similar to several other memoir books that detail dysfunctional childhoods with humor and insight, Running with Scissors is about Augusten's turbulent adolescence. His trials and tribulations reminded me a bit of the Lemony Snicket books in the sense that the adults, who are supposed to know better, are the ones who are clueless much to the detriment of the children. After reading about his parents and his adoptive family, I am even more convinced that the adage "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is true. Not only did Augusten survive, but he came out of the experience with a sense of humor.

I can't decide which book I prefer: this memoir or his book of short stories Magical Thinking. I really enjoyed the narrative of this book, and I probably should have read it before Magical Thinking, which alludes to the events of Running with Scissors.

Thanks to squirrel818 for sharing this book with us!

Journal Entry 12 by Ixion from Alexandria, Virginia USA on Saturday, April 9, 2005
Received book in mail today, it came from CA which is why it took a while. It's a bit beat up -- looks like they stuck it at the bottom of the bins because it was pretty dirty, book is in good shape though.

04/22/05 - Update - I am finished with this book. NgraceD changed username to advoc84justice and is MIA for the last 6 months. PMed weeblet for address. Ok, he's already read the book, and I don't mail international, will consult with ring owner.

Journal Entry 13 by Ixion from Alexandria, Virginia USA on Wednesday, May 18, 2005
This book didn't really suite my taste. I found myself getting very angry and upset at the adults in the story and had a really hard time digesting the material because of it. I think the book made me more stressed out than relaxing me and in the end, I couldn't completely finish it. So I don't know, does he have a happy ending? Not sure on that one, all I know is, the whole lot of 'em outta be arrested!

=)

The next two people Ngraced is MIA and weeblet has already read the book and passed. gkonkler5 has graciously volunteered to mail the book onto the UK, so it's going to her in the mail!

Journal Entry 14 by gkonkler5 from Casper, Wyoming USA on Wednesday, May 25, 2005
Received this today from Ixion as part of a bookring. I'll get started on ASAP. Thanks!

Journal Entry 15 by gkonkler5 from Casper, Wyoming USA on Tuesday, May 31, 2005
I loved this book! Thought it was just fascinating and couldn't wait to see what these crazy people were going to do next.

Interesting how many people describe the book as "funny". I thought it more bizarre and absurd but delightful and sad as well.

I can't wait to see this movie, the casting looks good.

Can't wait to read more by this author.

Thanks for including me in the ring!

I will be sending it on as soon as I hear from sweetpeeps. According to her profile she may have limited access to the internet so I'll give her a week or so to reply with her address.

Journal Entry 16 by gkonkler5 from Casper, Wyoming USA on Friday, June 10, 2005
Mialed today 06/11/05 to pawpads in Englad. Should arrive in 4 to 7 days. I skipped sweetpeeps because I did not hear from her.

Journal Entry 17 by pawpads from Gloucester, Gloucestershire United Kingdom on Friday, August 5, 2005
Recieved this 2 days ago from my neighbour who had been holding on to it for who knows how long after the postie delivered it to her house by mistake.

Have read it very quickly and found myself also getting angry with the adults for allowing this to happen.

Just waiting to hear from concertina now.

Journal Entry 18 by concertina8 on Monday, August 22, 2005
got this in the mail and will start reading asap

Journal Entry 19 by concertina8 on Thursday, August 25, 2005
WOW! this one really has everything.

the story is sad, at times disgusting, very disturbing and absolutely hilarious. interesting combination, that. it's difficult to grasp that one's REAL LIFE can be so incredibly weird. then again, who is to decide what is "normal", anyway?

a lot more interesting than most fictinous life stories.

...now let's see if i can find a bookring for "dry" somewhere.

Started reading.

Journal Entry 23 by bookmaniac70 from София / Sofia, Sofiya Bulgaria on Monday, September 12, 2005
The book is,without doubt, well written. It is astonishing what kind of life one can have. It`s hard to believe that the book was not a fruit of the writer`s imagination. The story of his life is so weird that somehow I couldn`t relate myself to it. The book didn`t involved me emotionally but I admired the intelligent style and self-ironic view. I didn`t like, however, the detailed account of his first gay relationship. It was too much for my taste,I`m afraid.

In conclusion, my impressions are of a witty, well written and interesting book but I don`t feel to have been inspired or provoked by it, or to have learn something from his life.

Now I`m going to return the book to its owner.
Thanks for the opportunity to read it,squirrel818.
