Now being offered as an International BOOKRING. bookring successfully completed.
I am willing to LEND books from my personal collection on the condition that you send them back to me when you're done. Please see my profile for details.

Book Description
In Laurell K. Hamilton's New York Times bestselling series, vampire hunter and animator Anita Blake sinks her teeth into her work. But this day is busier than most. Two jobs pop up that make even Anita doubt her own capabilities: raising an entire graveyard of two-hundred-year-old corpses and finding out what happened to three Missouri teenagers—slaughtered in a way she has never seen before....

"Come morning, some of us would be alive and some of us wouldn't...
"Of course, maybe there was just the one newly dead vampire to deal with. If so, we might all see the sunrise. But I hadn't lived this long assuming the best. Assuming the worst was always safer. And usually truer."

  • The above list order may be modified at any time to accomodate new participants or those who withdraw from the ring. So you should always refer to the list included in this journal entry before mailing the book after you've finished with it.
  • After messaging the next person in the list for their address, you should allow at least a week for a reply, to allow for vacations, etc. You may also want to send more than one PM if they don't reply the first time since BookCrossing PMs sometimes get lost in transit. In Search Of (ISO) posts in the Bookring Forum also work well. And of course, remember to check their profile page in case they've posted news of their whereabouts, or an email address that is more reliable than BookCrossing PMs. If you still haven't heard from them after 1-1/2 to 2 weeks, skip them and move on to the next person in the list.
  • Please post a journal entry here (1) when you first receive the book so we all know it has arrived safely, and (2) after you've finished reading it and are ready to send it along. Of course, please include your thoughts and opinions on the book itself too. :)
  • For courtesy sake, please try not to keep this book for more than 4-6 weeks as others are also waiting to read it. If you don't think you can get to the book in that timeframe, you can request to be skipped over and/or added to the end of the ring instead. Just use your best judgement so as not to hold up the ring for all the participants waiting behind you.
  • Late particpants are welcome—PM me if you'd like to join. Be sure to specify which bookrings you'd like to join, as well as your shipping preferences. If you're joining the ring after it's already begun shipping, know that your place in the list will be determined based on your geographic location in conjunction with what is best for the other participants.
  • Please do not ask to join any of my rings if you're not a responsible and reliable BookCrosser. If you happen to see someone in the list who you believe is questionable, please let me know immediately. I do research names I don't recognize and use a number of methods for spotting bad Crossers, but I certainly appreciate any additional info.
  • Remember that at the end of the list, THIS BOOK SHOULD BE RETURNED TO ME, not released into the wild. I enjoy rereading my favorite books over time, and lend them out to other people in my life too, who are not necessarily members of BookCrossing.
  • Note that while I'll certainly take your shipping preferences into account during list ordering, I don't like to stick the same people with International shipping costs every time, particularly for a series of 10+ books such as this. So if you plan to participate in the rings for the entire series, at least 10 of which will be International, I may ask you if you'd be willing to ship Internationally even if you've requested not to at the beginning. I'll try to minimize this, especially if I have enough International shippers to pass the cost around to, but just in case, I figured I'd bring it up so you're not surprised if I approach you about it later.
  • In addition, I like to ask the US participants of my rings who are shipping overseas to consider all shipping options in addition to surface mail. Particularly with lightweight books such as these, Air Mail or Global Priority Mail (GPM) is sometimes a more efficient shipping option for certain countries, sometimes costing as little as 50 cents more, certainly worth it to cut the shipping time down by a month or two. I've even come across a few cases where the small GPM envelope (into which these books fit) is even cheaper than surface mail!

THANKS AND HAPPY READING!

Journal Entry 3 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Thursday, December 22, 2005
Books 5 thru 8 of the Anita Blake series are heading off to NeedSun in Canada later today (22-Dec-2005) via Air Mail.

The bookrings aren't going to start right away... I need the 4th book to get a little further along first. J, I'll be in contact with you directly to let you know when it's safe for each book to leave your nest and begin it's journey. :) (I need to allow a bit more time between each book like we did between books 3 and 4; the first 3 were too close together and arrived out of order to some people because of that.)

Enjoy these... and the other little goody I enclosed for ya. Happy Holidays!

Journal Entry 4 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, January 4, 2006
I received the box of books just before New Years Day. I can't wait to read these, the next four in the Anita Blake series. When I emptied the box I also found a beautiful bookmark. Cherie, thank you so much.

Journal Entry 5 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Thursday, February 2, 2006
Great book, once again. Seeing the main characters' relationships develop is what really grabs me about this book. I am going to read a couple of others then read #6.

Thanks again, Cherie. You know I love these.

Journal Entry 6 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, May 31, 2006
I forgot to make a journal entry when I mailed this one. It went by air on May 25 to morpha.

Journal Entry 7 by morpha from Astoria, Oregon USA on Thursday, June 1, 2006
The more I read from this series, the more I like it.
I hope Anita kicks some major tushie in this book! I should finish it tomorrow or the next day as I have one ring ahead.

Journal Entry 8 by morpha from Astoria, Oregon USA on Wednesday, June 7, 2006
Anita tries to keep herself emotionally and physically distant from the "monsters" around her, but it is getting harder and harder to do so, especially when she learns more about her own capabilities as a necromancer. Another great book. I enjoyed learning about the sidhe, and it was nice to see Anita becoming more accepting of Jean-Claude.

Journal Entry 9 by geniedances from Houston, Texas USA on Friday, June 30, 2006
This book arrived safe and sound today in my P.O. Box. Right now I'm reading another bookring but will start this one very soon.

Journal Entry 10 by geniedances from Houston, Texas USA on Wednesday, July 26, 2006
Anita is forced to see how she is perceived by the "monsters". The fact that she is more than "just a human" is becoming more obvious with each book. Her relationships with the main characters is becoming more intertwined. With this book she is forced to realize her real powers as she is forced to engage in some serious battles. In the struggle, she comes out the winner in that she is still alive to tell the tale. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it! Now I'm contacting the next BCer on the list so this book can continue its journey.

Journal Entry 11 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Wednesday, August 2, 2006
Yay yay yay! I've gotten so hooked on this series! I'm actually in the middle of another book ring, Hamilton's Death of a Darklord, but I should be ready to start this in a day or so!

Journal Entry 12 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Monday, August 21, 2006
Finished this over the weekend! I'm getting more attached to Larry and hope he continues to fight at Anita's side in future books, and I missed Edward who did not appear in this one at all!

Am awaiting an address and then will send on!

Journal Entry 13 by Rhenium3 from Skellefteå, Västerbotten Sweden on Friday, September 8, 2006
just got it! Can't wait to start! :)

The book is here.

I liked this one better than The Lunatic Cafe. Probably because this one had more of an adventure and action and a lot less of the sexual tension and boyfriend troubles. I also expect great things from Larry! He slides up right next to Edward as the favourite male character.

Will send this to Margih as soon as she has read TLC.

Journal Entry 17 by Margih from Tampere, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Saturday, June 9, 2007
I recieved two Anita Blakes books couple of days ago, thank you Ulrika.

My reading speed is still quite slow and I´ve 4-5 ring books by me to read first but I´ll read these A.B. novels asap. Thanks again CheriePie for sharing these novels :)

Journal Entry 18 by Margih from Tampere, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Sunday, December 16, 2007
The last half of this year has been quite hard for me and reading books has been a demanding project. So I´ve had to give up some rings. And this book has been so terrible long here by me and I just haven´t been able to concentrate on it so I must give up and let the book move on to the next reader, GateGypsy.

I already took the book to the post office last week so it is on its way to Canada by surface mail. Thank you CheriePie for letting me keep it so long, understanding my situation. Maybe I someday ask the unread books for loan, when the pains are in better control. I´ll ship the rest Anita Blake books in my possession to the next readers in the beginning of the year 2008.

Thanks again :)

Journal Entry 19 by GateGypsy from Ladysmith, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, January 9, 2008
Wow, I didn't even know this was on its way! **laughs** (was I asleep when I replied to the PM?) Anyway, it's lovely to see it here, and I'll get on to it ASAP, but it'll be a little bit. I have already started one book, and have been requested to bump another up in my reading order, so this will be third, for fun... of course, I must warn you that my "fun" reading will be greatly diminished as I have to read Virginia Woolf's Room of One's Own for Women's Studies, Vanderhague's Englishman's Boy for English, and Shelley's Frankenstein this weekend for another class! **Grins** I'm not upset about this, but I figured you deserved fair warning to know it'll take me a while to get to this one. Thanks again, CheriePie, for sharing! I've quite enjoyed the random arrival of these books over the years, since signing up for the rings. I hope that sharing them is continuing to work out for you!

Journal Entry 20 by GateGypsy from Ladysmith, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, March 19, 2008
I got to it!! YaY! I had wanted to finish this before I started my vacation, but oh well. I got to the end, in the end  <-- Cherie, can you tell I spend too much time posting on bookobsessed?

I was really excited by the introduction of Fae in this story, and I always enjoy descriptions of Anita doing her "job" as an animator. Larry was a huge part of the story and plot in this one, so I expect there'll be a lot more about him in the books to come.

I must say the ending chapters threw me a bit. I found the storytelling a little disjointed. I thought at first it was my fault for reading before bed and falling asleep or forgetting paragraphs, but it turns out she was intentionally jogging the story forward and over a little, having Anita's sense of time be altered/affected by some creature or another's bespelling powers. It still left me feeling somewhat off-kilter.

Looking forward to the next one! Cherie, thanx so much for sharing these!

Shipped May 9/08

Journal Entry 21 by sonia23 from Hiram, Georgia USA on Thursday, May 22, 2008
Woo-hoo! Just received this and am looking forward to reading it.

Edit 7/1 Finished! Jean-Claude has now officially topped my list of vampires I would swoon for. Hee hee. I really thought... never mind. ;)

As with all of her books, this one was pure fun to read. I can't wait for the next one.

This will be on its way home soon as I hear from Cherie-Pie. Thanks again!

Edit 7/28 Mailed today via First Class.

Journal Entry 22 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Saturday, August 2, 2008
Arrived back home with me today. Thanks everyone for taking such good care of these on their worldwide journey. And I'm glad to have them back home as I plan to hook my sister on the series once I move out to the West Coast later this year. :P
