Odd, dark, disturbing, fascinating - I kept forgetting that this was not in fact Spalding Gray's autobiography (I think it largely must have been) - it certainly makes his suicide seem inevitable, as he dwells on death and on his mother's suicide. From the inside flap: "Impossible Vacation is the story of a perpetual malcontent who, in trying to recapture the bliss, innocence and purity of childhood, seems doomed to find only the opposite.
