Gruel and Unusual Punishment: A Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery With Recipes (Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries with Recipes (Paperback))

I really enjoyed this book. I'm not usually one for mysteries, but first off, this is set outside a place (Bedford, PA) where my 6th grade class took a field trip, so I feel like its a 'local" book. The town in the book itself is ficitonal, but Bedford is not. In addition, Cumberland Maryland where she visits has one of the best discount bookstores in this area. (Not that she went there, but hey, I can be a bit biased, can't I?) I'm hoping to go to that bookstore next week, but I digress. . .
In addition, I enjoy books about the Amish and Mennonites, as I have friends who are both. Granted, this book is a bit far fetched, but I did find it quite amusing.
You'll find with Tamar Myers' books the first one you read will probably be the one you enjoy most as she repeats some of the same jokes over and over and over. . . I mean how many times do we need to hear about Snookums' being 80/20 (you'll see what I mean when you read the book) or how her parents died or how this (fictional) town got its name.
Even with a bit of it far fetched, its a fun enjoyable read.

This looks pretty quirky and entertaining. It's one from an M-bag collection sent by jenndiggy. I really like the idea of the recipes within the story - seen this in a few other books as well and think it's a bit of fun.
