The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America

I found this book on a sale table and had high hopes for it, having read Bryson's A Walk in the Woods, and loved it. But I found his sarcasm in The Lost Continent heavy-handed, and his digs at nearly every town he visited to be mean-spirited. Rarely does he have a positive comment about any of the towns. He begins his driving tour in his hometown of Des Moines, which he initially left as soon as he was old enough. He ends up back there and comes to the conclusion that there really is no place like home. I didn't enjoy the journey.

I am in the process of reading it now. So far, I am enjoying it. I will write more after I finish and release it someone else. I will be up in New YOrk next week and hope to be able to send it on its new journey there.
I have to say I really enjoyed the book! I found his comments to be so very true for the most part and I found much of the book laugh out loud funny. I hope the next person enjoys it as much as I did. For me it was an enjoyable journey.
