Author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Interpreter of Maladies - traces the Ganguli family from their tradition-bound life in Calcutta to their transformation into Americans.
The immigrant experience, the clash of cultures, heartache, the challenges/misunderstandings between generations... with empathy and insight.

A fine story of the immigrant experience, focused on the experiences of first generation Indian-American Gogol Ganguli. The character development for Gogol and his immigrant parents is superb. The writing does a terrific job of evoking their environment, their experiences, even their inevitable conflicts that arise out of differing perspectives.

Returned the book to BookCrosser JDT, who has another reader waiting for the book. Thanks, JDT!

This book was an incredible look at the struggle of immigrants to America to hold on to their traditions while deciding which American traditions to embrace.

I have loaned this book to my friend Jessica.
