The Color Purple
1 journaler for this copy...
Got this at Goodwill for $0.25 while looking for books for the August Summer Blooms Release Challenge.
Not what I expected. At all.
I am always impressed with authors who are able to write dialogue in a way that can be heard as clearly as it is in this book. Even when it's not dialogue, but the person speaking/writing in a letter, I could so easily hear Celie's voice that I was amazed. The comparison between her writing and Nettie's (who received more schooling) was well done, too.
I found the parts about Africa fascinating, and learned some things I never knew. I have to admit that I found this book fairly depressing, but like it nonetheless. I also loved the reason behind the title.
I've never seen the movie, but think I will get it now and release the book simultaneously :)
