This book deepened my understanding of Christ, weird as that sounds. It remains one of my top five favorite books--it's funny, and wrenching, and thought-provoking.
Mercy before justice, amen.

Thank you, Chris Moore.

I really enjoyed this book. It made me think but was not too heavy. I liked seeing familiar bible stories from a very different point of view, and some of Moore's answers to Where did Jesus get his ideas and parables? and What would it have been like growing up as the Son of God? Moore's connection between Christianity and Eastern religions was very interesting. As a Christian (but not a fundamentalist)I wasn't offended but rather enjoyed thinking about how things may heve been.
I would have enjoyed more scenes with Biff and Raziel in the hotel room, especially Biff's opinion of the 4 gospels. I would recommend this for fans of alternate history stories or Terry Pratchett's work. I gave it an 8 because I was a bit disappointed by Biff's viewing women mainly as property or sex objects.
Will mail it off this week!

Arrived today. I'll get right on it.

Well, "right on it" I got, but it just took me forever. It wasn't all the book's fault. My DH was diagnosed with cancer, had surgery, and it's been an eventful month. The book was cute, but not a page-turner for me. I wanted to finish it, though. It was good enough to finish, just so I could see how it ended.

(That was a joke.)

Well, even though I knew how it was going to end, I still wanted to see how Moore was going to handle it, after finding fun with everyone all along the way.

I loved that Biff invented sarcasm. I don't know what I'd do without it!

Finally (!) getting it on its way tomorrow.

Thanks for the read. It was a fun trip.

Found this one in my mailbox today. I have a few rings in front of it, but I am a fast reader and will get to soon. You can track its progress via my bookshelf.

I enjoyed this book, just not as much as I thought I would. It was entertaining, but not the be-all-end-all of books. I think I liked Practical Demonkeeping better. Not being a big Bible banger I was pretty open-minded about the subject matter, but the book rubbed me the wrong way in some spots. There were definitely some laugh out loud moments though. I enjoyed seeing Christ portrayed as an actual person and marvel at Moore's imagination when it comes to developing a human from a deity. All in all, a good read.

Thanks for sharing. This will go out to the next reader next week some time.

I liked this book but not as much as the rest of his. At some points I just wanted to finish it already, but Joshua and Biff have stayed in my head for quite awhile so I did enjoy it.

Sending to sylverline.

Big deal! Came with the mail today, all the way from Malaysia. Great many thanks to Abbynormal, sylverline and all who were involved! I read the German translation last year (and loved it!), now I'm curious to see what the original book is like.

Journal Entry 17 by winghank-chinaskiwing from Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Monday, August 15, 2005
This one's been one of my personal favorites ever since I read it in German last year, and it was great fun to read it in the original language now. Parts of it, that is, because with myriads of books waiting on my TBR pile I didn't read it all over again from top to end. Anyway, it made me cry with laughter and then again it made me cry because I was so deeply touched by its philosophical wisdom and spiritual truth. Thanks again for making this available!

"It's sarcasm, Josh."
"Sarcasm?"
"It's from the Greek, sarkasmos. To bite the lips. It means that you aren't really saying what you mean, but people will get your point. I invented it, Bartholomew named it."
"Well, if the village idiot named it, I'm sure it's a good thing."
"There you go, you got it."
"Got what?"
"Sarcasm."
"No, I mean it."
"Sure you did."
"Is that sarcasm?"
"Irony, I think."
"What's the difference?"
"I haven't the slightest idea."
"So you're being ironic now, right?"
"No, I really don't know."
"Maybe you should ask the idiot."
"Now you've got it."
"What?"
"Sarcasm."

Just got this in the mail today. I've got one ahead of it, but will start it soon! Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 22 by timollie5502 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Monday, July 24, 2006
I just finished this one, and I'm really glad I read it. Some parts were challenging for me as a Christian - I wasn't sure if this was a book that God would really enjoy my reading. But I decided to take it for what it was, a fun novel about how life might have been like for Jesus as a teenager.
I'm glad I was last in line for this bookray - there are many friends who I think would enjoy it. I just have to decide which one first!
Thanks for sharing it!
