This third novel starring hapless Baltimore undertaker Hitchcock Sewell puts Hitch in the middle of a puzzle that gets weirder by the minute. His old friend Lucy has shot her lover, sleazy nightclub owner Shrimp Martin, and disappeared. Shrimp's gunshot wound isn't fatal, but a mysterious hospital visitor delivers the coup de grâce, a direct stab to the heart. Naturally the police think the loopy Lucy must be the killer. Hitch tracks Lucy to a beach house where she's hiding out in the company of Hitch's ex-wife Julia, and a private detective tracks Shrimp's missing stepbrother to some pungent underbrush, where his body's been since before Lucy shot Shrimp. Meanwhile, Hitch has found an informant, a sexy but oddly hostile waitress from Shrimp's club, who drops dark hints of illegal gambling and hidden bags of cash.
Add to the mix a sultry nightclub singer, a cocky trumpet player, a bad-boy basketball pro with a mean punch, and assorted other oddballs and suspicious characters, and you might almost think you've fallen into the Baltimore version of a Janet Evanovich novel. But hold your hearses--Hitch's wisecracking style is entirely his own, and it's a pleasure to read

This was the third in Cockey's Hitchock Sewell series and again a very enjoyable book. There were times that I didn't find it as amusing as the other two, but still very much enjoyed the book and will continue to read the series.
The main character is by far my favorite. He's such a smart alec and it's so fun to "watch" him mess with people.
I highly recommend this series as a very enjoyable mystery with comedy thrown in for good measure.

This book came in the mail sometime last week while I was on vacation. I plan on reading it right away then sending it on. I'll let you know how I think it compares to the first two since I thought they were pretty unusual.
Not quite as good as the first two mainly because I like a little more romance. I am hoping he finds the love of his life sometime soon.
I'll send this on as soon as I get pjmom8025 address.

The book was sent yesterday, 121004. Thank you again for organizing these book rings, Yllus. They are books I probably wouldn't have picked up on my own but I am glad I got a chance to read them. Hurray for book rings!
I received this in the mail today. I will hold this (hostage) until the first two come in which I haven't read yet.
I just got book one and two in the mail today. I have a couple library books ahead of these, but they are quick reads. I will get these book in the mail before the end of the month.
I have absolutely been swamped with life and books. I tried #1 of this series and just wasn't in the mood to read it at this time. I am going to go ahead and send this off to the next participant tomorrow.
Got this in the mail today and can't wait to start reading it!
Well this was a pretty good one. I love this series! Yllus, thanks so much for sharing this series. I've been enjoying them all and they're so darn funny...my mom's read the first one so when I get to a really funny line, I call her up to read it to her. She's going to tackle the rest of the series over the summer.
Mailing this to spaceystacey on 3/7/05.

Arrived in the post yesterday without a postmark and without the stamps cancelled. Three others came in at the same time. Will get to after Easter.
6/21/05 Mailed out today to the next reader on the list. Thank you for starting this ring. I have never before read one of this author's books but will in the future.
The banter and humor was great. Hitch is a definite favorite character of mine at this time.

This arrived in today's mail. I have another bookring ahead of it, but will read this (and then the fourth book) as soon as I can. I really enjoyed the first two books, so I'm looking forward to reading these two!
I finished this up last night... I thought this was funnier than the first two, but I have liked them all so far. I just love the whole concept of the main character being an undertaker.
Anyway, now I'm finally on to the fourth book. I will send this one out to CheriePie as soon as I get her address.
Thanks much to yllus for starting this ring!
** Sent media mail to CheriePie on 7/23 **

This book and it's follow-up arrived today... well yesterday really since it's after midnight now. I've got a few rings and rays ahead of 'em. Since I'm last on the ring, and yllus knows I'm c00l with books, I may have these a bit longer than a month. Been traveling a lot this summer, plus a busy social schedule, which has impacted my reading time a little, combined with the fact that a ton of the rings and rays I'm on decided to all come in all within the last 2 months... and yes I'm talking over 10. *grin* Hope y'all are having a great summer t00!!
I just love Hitch! I certainly wouldn't push him outta my bed were he to saunter by. ;) Though I wonder, with his smart-ass sarcastic comments all the time, if I'd get sick of him after awhile. Naaah...
Anyhoo, I didn't want to put this one down and am looking forward to the next book, which I'd sent off to HallieK before reading it so that I could mail both of these back to yllus at the same time. (She's going to mail it back to me when she's done.) Thanks again to yllus for introducing me to yet another great author!
