Amazon says: "Considered an idiot because of his physical infirmities, Claudius survived the intrigues and poisonings of the reigns of Augustus, Tiberius, and the Mad Caligula to become emperor in 41 A.D. A masterpiece."

Many years after getting it from Firegirl, I've finally read this book and no doubt it is a masterpiece. The best book I read this year so far and surely one of the best I read ever. The book has been lent to two other bookcrossers meanwhile, because I never seemed to find the time to read it, but I'm so glad I finally did. I started reading the book really convinced it was a transcription/adaptation of a text from Claudius himself and was a bit disappointed when I found it was fiction, but even so, I found it an excellent book anyway. I only miss the inclusion of a list of references of the documents used by the author to back up his story and some kind of account of what is really history and what is pure fiction.
I'll keep the book for a while more so that my husband has a chance to read it and I aftr that I will release it through a bookray.
Thank you again for the opportunity to read such a fine book, Firegirl!

This book will go on travelling as a bookray, together with vol. II (Claudius the God). I want the readers to enjoy them as they deserve, so I will set no time limits or any other rules, asking only that if for some reason you believe you won't be able to read them within a reasonable time, you make a JE just so we know you're still there (or, you can pass the book along and ask to be put into the list again, ahead).

Peaople that joined this double bookray:

1- ichigochi
2- vcrazygirl
3- fungaga
4- you?

It's with me. Thank you Pequete, and thank you Firegirl for making this book available in the first place.
I know there is no time limit but I don't have any rings or rays with me now so this will be my next reading... Hopefully won't take too long. :)

I was absolutely entranced by this reading.
I just missed the inclusion of a genealogical tree or of a list of characters, which would help tracking all the family ties.
And I agree with Pequete that it's sad we can't know for certain if things really happened this way, particularly the details of all the plotting that was always going on...

I particularly enjoyed the way "Claudius" leads us from feeling repulsive towards Livia's behavior, and her control over everybody else, to making us feel sympathy for her and even a bit admiring of how everything worked under her hands... How tragic that each emperor would choose a successor more evil than himself so that people would miss him and admire him posthumously!

Thank you for sharing this book.
It is already on its way to vcrazygirl.
