Book Description:
The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes.

The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days while lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them "the truth." After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional--but is it more true?

I finished this book last night. I apologize for taking as long as I did, but I've been busy and had other rings/rays in my posession as well.

Anyway... I'm still a bit torn on whether or not I really liked this book. I think I did except for at times it seemed to just run on and on. Another reason I was slow reading this was due to the "gross factor". I mean... I just couldn't read some of the scenes while I was eating lunch and such. I guess I'm just not able to take some of the more grotesque scenes that were described in this book. The books was enjoyable overall and I'm not disappointed that I took the time to read it.

Now... time to PM agschoolgrad for an address and get this book on the road again. :)

Thanks for sharing!

This book was really a great read! The story sounds so real and so surreal at the same time, it's fascinating! I felt that the ending was a bit rushed but that's OK after so many pages of describing life at sea. Truly a great book!

I'll send it on its way once I have oceanss' address.

RELEASE NOTES:

Sent to oceanss. Enjoy!
