I was drawn to this book because I read a short story, years ago, called "Something Else" by Robert Tilley, and really loved it. I don't know if it's the same Robert Tilley, but I think it probably is.

This book, though, failed to satisfy. We are given blatant clues early on that something sinister is going on, and the picture of what this is builds up so neatly that we cannot share the characters' surprise when it is revealed. Coupled with a deus ex machina intervention near the end, and very odd motives for those intervening, this made the book quite unsatisfying.

It is not that it is a bad story, or that the characters were poor (although only Peter really came to life for me), but the presentation is wrong. Maybe the point of view moved around too much; whatever it was, it didn't work for me.

A disappointing book.

After some weeks of unsuccessful hunts I found this at the Clock Tower waiting for me to ease the disappointment of not finding The Silver Eggheads in Marlborough Square.

I was really excited about my first wild catch but I am so overwhelmed with bookrings and trying to catch up with reading my own personal collection that I've decided to pass this book along unread. Although I had thought about taking it to my new OBCZ in Ellistown I decided to send it on a different journey.

Added to my TBR Bookbox in the hope that the books that return to me I will actually read.
