Book Description
In the late 1960s, the author spent nearly two years on the ward for teenage girls at McLean Hospital, a renowned psychiatric facility. Her memoir encompasses horror and razor-edged perceptions, while providing vivid portraits of her fellow patients and their keepers. "Searing . . . captures an exquisite range of self-awareness between madness and insight."--Boston Globe.

I received this in the mail along with a surprise! Thanks weeblet!

I found this book a tad disjointed and mildly disturbing, which must have been the experience of the author having spent a year and a half in a mental hospital.

Since I had not seen the movie, I am happy to have read the book. Thanks for sharing!

I think I've read this before, but I don't totally remember (and I didn't see the movie) so I'm gonna grab this from the bookbox and see if it rings a bell.

I'm sending this book out to Summer Skye as part of one big RABCK where I'm mailing a book to everyone in the US that I've mailed a book to before (as long as I still have their address, anyway) and this one's been on Mt TBR for too long so out it goes!

I've got two goals: Firstly, I'm trying to keep books moving. Second, I'm trying to clear out as much space as possible before we bring home our brand new little baby in a few weeks. I tried as hard as I could to match books to interests people listed on their bookshelf, or to wishlists, but usually I just had to take a guess and mail a book. So, this is one such time... I don't remember what I sent her last time, but she sent me "Sybil" so I'm going to stay on the mental health theme.

This book was mailed along and then never heard from again. Now that this book has made its way to the Lost Book Island Resort it will be given the opportunity to lounge about and rejuvinate its mental health. We offer a classical music sun room that might be just the place for a little quiet rest for this book until it makes it to a new reader.

Previous readers can look forward to the day that a new journal entry takes this book away from the Lost Book Island Resort to continue a journey to places known and unknown.
