I have been SO eager to get my hands on a copy of this, and now that I finally have, I'm very sad to have to put it on Mt. TBR. If I weren't reading something for my book club, I'd be on the couch with it right NOW.
Loved it. Read it in one day and okay, I had a *few* issues with it, but ... the story's just great. The fine print under the title says it all: A novel about ugly ducklings and swans.
Haven't we all felt like the Jemima in the beginning? Maybe not that fat, but certainly all the rest. And since we can relate to her so well, when she turns into a swan, I turned into one with her. I'd look up from the book and grin like my cats do when they invade my lap... how very cool. What a neat experience to get from a book.
This is off to morpha next, who's kind enough to trade with me 'cause she has Sheila Levine is Dead and Living in New York, which my book club will be reading... next April. :)

Goodie! I will be reading this very soon thanks to a trade with SpikesMom.
I enjoyed this book, but why could Jemima only find happiness after she lost weight? How could she break her addictive eating (and then noteating habits) so easily? As a person who suffered from a major eating disorder many years ago, I am concerned with the message this book sends to readers. Get skinny to be happy, go to any extremes to get there no matter the possible consequences to your health, and then you will easily be able to drop those nasty little compulsive behaviors when you get a nice man who loves you. Well my dahlings, it ain't quite so easy as that.
It is really awesome that the author touched on the discrimination that obese people face in everyday life. get it out there girlfriend! Tell it to the world!
And yes, I did enjoy Jemima's transformation, and was rooting for her all along.

Received in the mail as a trade - thank you!
Although I generally liked the story for entertainment purposes, it was a tad shallow. I didn't like the running commentary either - I either want the characters or a narrator telling the story, but not both. I'm also tiring of the London-based chicklit - I must have read too much of it lately!
