Look what was in my mail today! Thanks so much, Seánan -- I can't wait to curl up with this. I know it will be wonderful, as it's a Newbery Medal winner. There was a time (maybe 3rd grade?) that that was all I would read (I had very high standards as a child)!
Thanks again -- this looks lovely :)
Thanks again -- this looks lovely :)
I've been putting this off as it didn't have a "deadline" like the bookrings I'm in. . . but tomorrow is the last day for the You’re Such an Animal September Release Challenge, so I knew I needed to read it tonight!
What a charming little book! Thank you so much for sharing this with me, Seánan!
I loved the darling little cat in this book. Its personality was so charmingly and sweetly drawn by the artist, it made me want to go out and get a cat :) of course, how could you know if it would have the wonderful disposition of this one? hmmmmmm . . .
I found the illustrations fascinating. The picture that accompanies the first "Song of the Housekeeper" shows a tired and work-worn woman. Once good fortune falls on the household, her whole demeanor changes, and she is absolutely beautiful in the other illustrations.
My favorite part is where the author admits that the artist craves the respect of the cat. I was glad to see he appreciated the cat's taste!
Thanks again for sharing this with me, Seánan -- I'll be releasing this kitty into the wild tomorrow!
