I read this book when I was in fourth grade and didn't like it much. I suspect that it was too old for me at the time. When I reread it a couple of years ago, I really liked it. In fact, it is my favorite of all of the Tolkien books.

fantastic stuff! i have thoroughly enjoyed this book and it reminded me of when i first became aware of the Hobbit many years ago (i haven't ever read LOTR or got into the movies). i even started to like the Elven songs/poetry this time! ;) a wonderful book, i think it must become one of my all-time favourites. the very last bit of the ending was interesting in a philosophical sense, and on this reading of the book, made me question what the narrator/author is trying to say. now that i know a bit about tolkien and how he advised c.s.lewis on toning down his imagery/relgious philosophy it was interesting to see how tolkien 'sneaked' things in! will take to the next meet up for release! thank you!

Picked up at the Stamford Arms last night and really happy to see that this Hobbit has been on many adventures around the world. I haven't read it for years but have very happy memories of it (unlike LTR which I struggled with and gave up on)So looking forward to escaping back to a land of dragons, dwarves and wizards.
