I've just started this. But I had read an excerpt a while back in Harper's or somewhere. And it looked pretty interesting.
One reviewer, Chris Offut, says "Jarhead tells us why boys go to war and how they return as men..."
This is about being a jarhead in the first Gulf War.
As a side note, I recently heard from one of my old high school mates who is currently scouting locations for the movie version.
