Persepolis : The Story of a Childhood

One of my very favorite comix of all time: the memoir of a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, told graphically.
On its way across the Pacific to Japan...bon voyage!
It is awesome!! I've just read it in one night as I could not stop it. It tells so many things all the more effectively because of simple yet graphic style. I'll give this book another long travel.....all the way to France.

CAUGHT IN KOGANEI TOKYO JAPAN
This book came to Toronto from Tokyo. It was sent by a dear friend of mine, who upon learning that I had just started dating an Iranian man sent it to me. He read it over, and explained that the main character--the young girl, comes from upper class Tehran, and her experience as told in the book reflects that. He, my new man, is older and was a teenager in Tehran during the Revolution and was a soldier in the Iran/Iraq war. The war ended in 1988, but is still all too close to his heart, and haunts his dreams.
People of the east, in general, have a much better understanding of western culture than we do of theirs. Stories such as Persepolis needs to be told. Perhaps it will be through education and understanding that we can bridge the divides and bring peace to our world.
I plan on sending this book to a fellow Canadian who wants to learn more about the middle east.
