Selected Poems from Les Fleurs Du Mal
2 journalers for this copy...
Another in my plan to speak, read and have fun with French.
Thank you so much for sending this to me! I can't wait to dig in :) I admit that I do not speak French, but I have been curious about Baudelaire's work for some time. Luckily my brother speaks French and I think he would greatly enjoy this collection, so when I finish perusing it I will pass it along to him.
I have been reading these poems in bits and pieces. I still think I may give the book to my brother, but he has such a massive TBR I'm not sure he'd get around to reading them.
Besides, I'm only 1/2-way through so who knows when I'll even be ready to get the book moving.

Finished the poems. The ones that stood out to me were:
L'Albatros / The Albatross
La Muse Malade / The Sick Muse
Le Mauvais Moirne / The Wretched Monk
La Beaute / Beauty
"Avec ses vetements ondoyants et nacres..." / "Dressed in her opalescent, shimmering clothes.."
Le Vampire / The Vampire
Le Flambeau vivant / The Living Torch
Reversibilite / Reversibility
Le Poison / Poison
Ciel brouille / Heaven's Haze
A une dame creole / For a Creole Lady
Le Revenant / The Incubus
La Pipe / The Pipe
Obviously every translator will interpret these poems differently, but the way Shapiro translated these allowed them to stand out to me for one reason or another.
Une Gravure fantastique / A Fantastic Engraving
Spleen that begins "Je suis comme le roi d'un pays pluvieux..." / "I'm like the king of some dank land - wet, cold -..."
Le Crepuscule du matin / Morning Twilight
La Beatrice / Beatrice Mine
L'Albatros / The Albatross
