I really enjoyed this book (on a number of occassions) and class it as one of my favourites. It is a bit if a wacky story with some cooky characters in it. Although some may scoff at it's basic nature, I read for pleasure and escapism (why else?) and this book provides both.

The movie was utter disappointment, although the soundtrack is quite good, but becoming dated.

UPDATE: July 2007 - It is utterly amazing that this book has made it back to the UK since that is where I bought it originally!! I lived in the UK for 8 years and heard about the book through various friends who had been on travelling trips to Asia, similar to the ones detailed at the start of the book. Kau San road etc etc. WOW, we really do live in a global village!! Neato :O)

This is the second time I've read this book. I enjoyed it, however not as much as the first time I read it. I am more disappointed in the movie now, as well, since there were big changes in the movie that were not in the book - usual story, I guess. Thanks for sharing this book with me. It is now ready to continue it's journey.

So, as I'm going to call my ride after work, I look to the side, and I see this book. Thinking yet another guest had dropped a book of theirs, I pick it up to turn it into our lost and found, when I spot a hotpink sticky on the cover that says "please take me home, i am a good book, I promise to behave :)" So..I look inside, and realize what it is. At this point i'm rather excited, then I read the back, adn realize it's the book to go with the movie I saw YEARS ago. I can't wait to finish reading it.

My plans for the book are as follows: My friend wants to read it, but after that, in 31 days I leave to travel in europe, I shall bring the book with me, and leave it somewhere in a cafe or something, and hope that someday it will make it's way back to canada :) Hooray!

funny, I just read the existing journal entries, and I suppose the last person who released was probably in my vicinity when I found it. Thank you!

I found this book on the underground between stations glouster road and heathrow. a canadian lady left it there, i chased after her because she left her book and she explained to me what it was. so i took it home and read it (i live in birmingham UK) i am hoping to leave it somewhere in birmingham for some fellow person to pick up
