I got this at the Meet Up, it's apparently quite good and needs to registered, read, labelled and sent on a new journey.

This is a difficult book to explain. It's set in a future that is a lot like ours except that everybody ports through their computers and have very complex virtual lives. The story is set in Japan - both the futuristic Japan full of builidngs that build themselves and the hidden city - a multiuser domain that is a city with its own rules and no laws. I loved the settings. I loved the elements of current Japanees pop culture - crazy tv game shows, pop stars with obsessive fan clubs, small cars etc. I liked the characters: Chia and American fan of pop sensation Lo/rez sent by her fan club to find out if rumours of his marriage to a virtual media creation are true. The teenage boys who live only int he virtual world; Laney: hired to sift through the layers of raw data everyone generates to find the core of someone's personality. Or to predict the future. So I really enjoyed this book, I just can't say I really ever figured out what was happening or why. i never figured it out. But then, no one in the book seemed to either.
