The Book of the Dun Cow

Just finished "The Wyrm" by Laws and found out this deals with the same subject. Have had it for years and am reading it now.
Strange book, but I found myself caught up in it very rapidly.
There is an evil (Wyrm) loose in the world that must be battled by the Keepers. The problem is that they don't realize they are the Keepers. All of them animals lead by a magnificient rooster. The dun cow of the title does not apppear to figure in the story as prominently as the title would suggest, but I may have missed something.
Tale of good versus evil.
